A Coffee Date // January 9
Once upon a time, my dear friend Amber started hosting coffee dates here on the Internet, and even though she's taking a hiatus from blogging, my lovely friend Erin is keeping these monthly virtual coffee dates alive and it's just my favorite thing. Let's grab a hot mug of something yummy and chat, shall we?
If we were on a coffee date... I would be bundled up in all the blankets because it's snowy outside and being cuddly on days like this is a must. Did your town get snow this past weekend? If so, did you make snow angels too? Did you go on long walks just to admire it all? Did you sit still and revel in the silence the snow brings like I did? I could never live somewhere it's snowy all the time, but I'm cherishing it while it lasts.
If we were on a coffee date... I would ask about your word of the year (or your resolutions if that's more your style). Mine's clarity. I'm excited about it but also a little intimidated by it. My favorite thing about picking a word, though, is the way you're instantly hyper-aware of seeing it everywhere, hearing it in songs and in Scripture, noticing it in the books you read... it's illuminating in a really fun way.
If we were on a coffee date... I would talk about how I finally bit the PowerSheets bullet. I did it. This rebel, this stubborn perfectionist, this girl who's afraid to actually put hard things in writing in case she fails... she's now doing PowerSheets and setting big goals. WHAT EVEN. But people-- they're amazing. They're grace-filled and intentional and really thoughtfully constructed, and I'm loving the process. I wish they weren't sold out so you could get some for yourself... but hopefully they'll restock the shop this summer just in time for a mid-year reset! (ps-- I became an affiliate too which is super fun, and all it means is I get a little bonus if you use those links! Won't cost you anything more! It would MAKE MY DAY too, ha!)
If we were on a coffee date... I would ask how you're engaging with Scripture this year. I'm reading through the Bible in a year again (my third time!) and love the way an Old Testament passage is next to a New Testament one as well as with a Psalm and a Proverb every day -- I make new connections in the texts than I would if I was reading straight through, and I like that. But I still always love diving deeper and reading through books as a whole too... so tell me, what are you loving in your Bible reading right now?
If we were on a coffee date... I would tell you Hulu is a game-changer. I've had Netflix for a while, and I never actually watch cable TV when it's on, but I started a free trial of Hulu and realized THIS IS WHERE ALL THE GOOD TV SHOWS HAVE BEEN HIDING. I don't know why it took me so long to realize this. I'm now bingeing The O.C. with my roommate and it's GREAT.
If we were on a coffee date... I would ask about your reading plans for 2017. Did you set a goal for how many books you want to read? Are you doing a reading challenge? (I settled on one-- I'll blog about my plan for it soon!) Are you just trying to read one single book or a dozen or a hundred? Let's talk about all the bookish things!
If we were on a coffee date... I would want to talk about grace. Because man, it's wrecking me. I've become so, SO aware of how often I fail to give grace to myself (I'm a type One perfectionist!) and how often I fail to extend it lovingly to others (sorry, everyone...) and I've been really wrestling with it all. What does grace mean to you?
Can't wait to chat, friends!
