All the Awesome Articles // October 14

Sometimes, the best words I can find are written by other people. There's been so much going on in our world and especially our nation that my heart just feels a little heavy and my brain feels too muddy to really make thoughts make sense. So, I'm sharing things that have reminded me of the good in the world, things that have encouraged me, and things that are just dang good writing.

Enjoy!

that is the thing that troubles me most: our craving for affirmation has ruined our appetite for the greater thing—a hunger to know the God of the Universe and to position ourselves rightly in light of who He is. By opening our Bibles to find affirmation for ourselves, we are missing the whole point of Scripture: to affirm and teach us the truth about God.
— Kelly Givens

I work with Kelly who wrote this article, and I think she's incredibly brilliant and wise. This post was a really great look at our self-obsessed culture and how we really should focus more on God than our own selves. Grateful for these words of wisdom!

You’ll be the one person I never even knew I was looking for, you’ll be the one who helps me plant some roots because where ever you are is where I want to be.
— Becca Martin

Did I write this? (no) Did this author read my mind and my heart totally accurately and make it sound beautiful while also making me cry? (yes)

Instead of I am broken, I am broken, I am broken, my mind started singing euphoria. Thank you, I love you, thank you, I love you.
— Leah Pellegrini

This piece is stunning. It feels earthy and poetic and organic, and it's moving.

The last few years have seen a major rise in socially conscious brands. Whether that’s driven by the success of pioneer companies like TOMS or simply a desire to improve industry practices, it’s a win. The trend has made an impact on everything from home goods to eyeglasses, and they’re providing a real, ‘shop better and give back’ mentality for consumers.
— Leslie Musser

I've been increasingly more intentional about this in the last few years, and although it takes more research and slightly more money, it's incredibly worth it. I'm the biggest advocate for socially conscious brands and organizations that support all humans (especially women) well-- this list is a great place to start!
