A Coffee Date // August 8
My dearest friend Amber is the queen of coffee date blog posts, and once a month, she's joining forces with the lovely Erin to make virtual coffee dates among Internet friends a sweet reality. I'm glad you're here, friends. Let's do this thing.
If we were on a coffee date... I would start by saying I'm currently on Grand Cayman Island. I wrote this post last week in advance, because missing these dates is not a thing I want to do. As I write this on a Wednesday on my lunch at work, I'm really wishing for sunny skies and a drink in my hand. Let's hope that's what's happening as you're reading this!
If we were on a coffee date... I would tell you how freeing it is really purge your belongings. My roommate and I moved last week and before we did, we were ruthless about going through EVERYTHING we owned to get rid of what we didn't need or want anymore. Nothing was spared. I've never been one for true minimalism-- sale racks and good deals and impulsiveness has gotten the better of me more than I would like to admit. I got rid of 3 grocery bags full of books, 5 bags of clothes, a whole trash bag full of college t-shirts I'll never need or wear again, around 7 bags of household stuff for Goodwill... SO much left our apartment and it felt like such a weight lifted. Plus, we don't have to move all of that stuff now, so win-win.
If we were on a coffee date... I would ask you if you're a beach person. I never was-- the sand is annoying to me, I don't like getting in the ocean, I don't like crowds of people around me, etc... but I'm hoping this island changes my mind about things.
If we were on a coffee date... I would tell you to try saying yes to something scary. I'd tell you I said yes to a first date recently and it turned out to be a fantastic evening with a really great guy and I'm still smiling about it. You just never know, ya know? Be brave.
If we were on a coffee date... I would tell you about how encouraging it is to see the people closest to me seeking new ways to grow in their faith. I've had several heart-to-hearts in the last few weeks where people sought my advice on how they could better engage with Scripture or better spend time in prayer, and it made my heart sing to share my thoughts and brainstorm new ideas too.
If we were on a coffee date... I would ask if you, too, feel like we too easily forget.
If we were on a coffee date... I would clink my empty mug with yours and say we should get back to the beach.
See you next month, friends!
