#COLLABOREADS: A YA Novel
If you're new to #COLLABOREADS, welcome!
Every month, Kristin from Taz + Belly and I host this fun little book-loving link-up, and we're so happy you've stopped by!
Here's how this works: We pick a theme every month, you pick a book that fits (we all read different books! it's fun that way!) and then all link up and share our thoughts (with a handy-dandy R.E.A.D.S. acronym usually--see below!) and link up and become BFFs. You can read more about this whole thing here.
Riveting.
What part of the book could you NOT get enough of? I had a copy of this one lying around, but decided to make the most of a 20+ hour road trip down to GA and back this weekend and listen to it on audio instead! I will say that listening to L'Engle reading it herself was better than I had expected, and I would probably argue it was better than any other narrator would have been, but I wasn't nearly as engrossed in this story as I had expected to be based on what I remembered about it from reading it as a kid. I feel like the plot wasn't nearly as fast-paced, suspenseful, or exciting as I had thought it was/would be again, but had I been able to read the book at my own page instead of listening at L'Engle's spoken pace, I think I would have enjoyed it a little more.
Elements.
How did you relate to/care for the characters? What's your thought on the plot line and twists and turns? These characters are the best part of the book -- how can you not love Charles Wallace, want to root for Meg, find Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which enchanting, and want so badly for Father to come home to his family?
Associate.
What other books are like this one? If none, did it remind you of a particular TV or movie with it's themes and characters? Does it serendipitous-ly line-up with things going on in your life or the news right now? I kept thinking how similar this plotline was to the movie Interstellar, which makes me want to watch that movie all over again! Also -- has anyone read the rest of the Time quintet? I think this is the only one of the series I've read, but I'm curious if the others are worth grabbing!
Design.
You know you judged this book by the cover. What did you think of it? How did it relate to the contents of the novel? And the font and layout of the pages? The cover of the audiobook version was the same cover I remember of the book I had as a kid -- old school, a little weird, muted colors, but exactly what goes with this book in my nostalgic mind!
Stars.
How many out of five do you give this book? Would you recommend this book to a friend? Honestly, I know people love this book, but I just gave it 3/5. I wasn't nearly as impressed as I expected I would be, but I"m glad I revisited this one before the new movie comes out in the near-ish future!
LET'S LINK UP NOW.
FOR THE FUTURE:
Look at this awesome (and so helpful!) graphic Kristin made! We wanted to give you all advance notice for the rest of the year so you can plan your reading accordingly. :)
May's theme is "A Book that Became A Movie". Find any book that got made into a movie (or will become one soon), read it this month, blog your thoughts (you can use our R.E.A.D.S acronym or whatever style you want!) and link up at the end of the month!
Kristin from Taz + Belly and I are so excited to have you joining us, and we can't wait to see this fun little link-up grow this year!
